[size=15.3333330154419px]Graduate student positions (PhD or MS) are available in the Liang Lab at the College of Marine Science, University of South Florida. The Liang Lab uses a combination of observations, numerical models and theories to understand how the ocean works and how the ocean is affected by and responds to the changing climate. The successful candidates are expected to work on one of the two topics: 1) investigation of the influence of mesoscale eddies on deep ocean processes (i.e. ocean currents, internal waves and mixing); 2) the redistribution of the global ocean heat and salt contents.

[size=15.3333330154419px]In addition to the topics described above, the Liang Lab is involved in a variety of activities including moving forward the state-of-the-art ocean state estimate and deep ocean current measurements. Numerous opportunities exist to gain field and modeling experience, and the exact project undertaken will be largely dictated by your particular interests and skills. Moreover, collaborations with scientists from prestigious institutes (e.g., Columbia,MIT, UT Austin and WHOI) are expected.

[size=15.3333330154419px]The successful candidates will receive tuition, stipend and health benefits and will be supported by a combination of research assistantship and/or teaching assistantship funds. I also encourage you to apply for the fellowships offered by the college and the university (http://www.marine.usf.edu/index.php/students/fellowships).

[size=15.3333330154419px]Applicants with a BS or MS degree in marine science, physics, mathematics, or other related fields that have quantitative skills including computer programming (e.g. MATLAB, Fortran,Python) and/or statistics are encouraged to apply.

[size=15.3333330154419px]If you are interested in these positions, please contact Dr. Xinfeng Liang via email (liang@usf.edu) and provide a CV, an unofficial transcript and a brief statement of your research interests. You will need to apply through the Academic Affairs office at theCollege of Marine Science http://www.marine.usf.edu/students/ by January 2, 2016.[size=15.3333330154419px]
